I have been an esthetician since 2011. In May of 2019, I found the cutest little spot and opened my own facial studio! It was rough (an old air force center) but I saw the potential. A great size and layout. No need to knock down walls or build another room. All I needed to do was spruce it up!
Here’s how I designed a whole studio from scratch, on a budget!
First I always start with words that describe the space I want to create. When you are starting to remodel or redecorate, what words come to mind when you think of the space as you want it!?

It needed a fresh coat of paint of course. Not only does this clean the aesthetic of the room, we also needed to patch 1 million holes from the air force posters and random lines running along the walls.
Wall Paint: Benjamin Moore White Dove
I added taller, fresh baseboards to renew the space. Painted them the same color as the walls. Also painted all the doors and door trim to give a modern feel.
The carpet HAD to go! Ben and I found a few different flooring samples we loved at both Menards and Dugans Paint. But when I brought the Menards flooring in, it turned a hint of green in my space. No bueno. The flooring at Dugans actually was ALMOST the same price as Menards and a better quality. Win win.

I hired McCollester Construction to lay the floor and baseboard. I had only taken 2 days off from seeing clients, so I needed this done quickly. It would have taken Ben and I a lot longer, which would have cut into profits and my lash girls would have nowhere to go LOL the addiction is real guys.
Flooring choice makes a HUGE difference. It’s already brighter, bigger and cleaner looking in the space.
Meanwhile I had drawn up plans for all the “sections” a facial studio should have. And began all the detail work!
Here we started to build my front display. This is as simple as car siding from Menards painted in Benjamin Moore Pashmina. I designed a pattern that felt right to me and Ben made it happen.
We built the check out counter from a shoe storage type unit and applied a butcher block top and trim.
Instead of buying expensive floating shelves we made these from Menards. The brackets were silver, we spray painted them a matte black.
Here is another wall made out of the car siding. I wanted this to be a boutique looking nook. So we built the addition to fit inside these two hand me down shelves.
I bought a beautiful lamp at Walmart that has a USB port on it. A great way for clients to charge their phone.
Soon I’ll take another AFTER photo!! I haven’t taken one in a long time!
