LET’S CHAT TILE THIS WEEK!
The tile we are using from Floor & Decor is 15 X 30, which means it’s LARGE FORMAT; Here is a direct link to the exact tile. Online it looks almost black; it’s a dark matte grey with some movement to it in real life. So pretty! Our exterior is painted Kendall Charcoal, and this tile really ties into that look. It was $1.89 a sqft, which saved us so much money since we are covering a large area. When I first started researching tiling over concrete, I learned that porcelain tile is the best bet for longevity here in Missouri. Floor and Decor had a ton of options for porcelain, and I was able to filter by the color of tile and size. This was helpful since I knew exactly the look I was going for. If you are reading this and think there’s no way you would know where to start, they do have free design services.
Seeing the tile in this photo, really makes the wood ceiling pop!
Here is a clean photo of the tile! Isn’t it so pretty! One lesson we learned this week was to clean the tile better when the mortar was wet. We are perfectionists, yet we still did not get it totally clean as you can see in all the photos. Moving forward, we will make sure to clean the tops AND remove all mortar from the grout lines.
Our next steps are to finish laying the rest of the tile, then we will start the grout. Pray for good weather for us. LOL I’m antsy to move on from laying tile! This weekend is memorial day weekend. We thought we would have a whole long 3 days to tile and grout but we’ve been surprised with family coming into town from out of state 💛 “oh no so sad we can’t tile” 😹 ha so let’s see how much we can get done Friday night and Saturday.
